Our Prototype Housing Cubicle

Seven nights in hell

Our prototype housing cubicle: ShelterOne was build on a trailer so that we could tow it around to public events to educate City officials, the homeless, and the public about innovative housing solutions that are truly affordable. This tiny house is amazing. Over half of the 1,000 or so people who have seen it at our three public showings wanted to buy it. It has a full bathroom with a bathtub, a full kitchen, a sleeping loft, a desk, lounge chair, a large closet, and a washer/dryer.

In our three full-day visits to City Hall, neither Mayor Brown or any of his Supervisors cared to walk out of City Hall to tour ShelterOne, though they were invited.  Supervisor Ammiano and Newsom both failed to visit the cubicle though they both profess to want to solve the homeless problem, now that they are both running for Mayor in the 2003 election.
