Habitat for the Homeless, a non-profit construction corporation dedicated to helping homeless people build decent housing for themselves and others. The housing units we build are provided to other clean and sober homeless people in exchange for volunteer service in our Adopt-a-Block/Park program.
Our mission
To train able-bodied homeless people to build housing for themselves and others.
To design and build volunteer housing units in every neighborhood and to exchange this housing for volunteer service in their neighborhood.
To provide able-bodied clean and sober homeless people with food, clothing, shelter, and medical care in exchange for 24 hours of weekly volunteer work in their neighborhood.
Our three-year goal: To visit ten US cities, develop local contact, organize a ten-day media event around building the Smallest House in America using retrained homeless people, draw out volunteers and donors to continue building our ShelterOne homes, set up our Adopt-a-Block/Park program and move onto the next city.
